Letting Climate Change Take Over

An article published in Time by Christiana Figueres and Tom Rivett-Carnac entitled What the World Will Look Like in 2050 If We Don’t Cut Carbon Emissions in Half talks about the book, The Future We Choose, and how the world will become if humans do not take the necessary precautions in containing carbon emissions and further damaging the ozone layer of the Earth.

The article describes the world in 2050 as having hot and heavy air with lots of particles due to air pollution. People’s eyes will perpetually water often and there will be a never ending cough for everyone.

During this period, there are only a handful of forests left and after five to ten years, there will be a huge surge of extreme weather events such as hurricanes and tropical storms. Thousands of people will be presumed dead because of severe destruction in coastal cities and these weathers would most likely displace millions of people.

Floods would probably be a normal occurrence and there will be rampant diseases connected with it such as malaria, dengue, cholera, and even malnutrition.

Furthermore, the water will continuously rise everyday. People and animals would have to evacuate and move to higher grounds on a constant basis. Waters would most also most likely be acidic and would kill most of the marine life within it.

Unfortunately, this is only some of the scenarios that the article described. There are still a lot more drastic and heavily depressing descriptions of what the world will be like if we do not act now.

With this, we must ensure that industries become carbon neutral.

Metanoia is a Greek word that means “a transformation of heart and mind leading to a change in behavior”. Let us educate the youth of today so that even the future generation will do their part in controlling the carbon situation. Let us ensure that educational institutions shall become carbon neutral schools and let us trust Metanoia with our future.
